If I'm with another Fraternity/Sorority, can I still join?

Yes!!  Definitely!!  Since we are a professional fraternity, we do not compete with social fraternities or sororities.  You may be with several organizations at Ball State, but we hope you are able to spend the majority of your time with us.

What are the time commitments?

Chapter meetings are usually held every Monday night at 9:30 p.m. for approximately 1-2 hours.  Individual committees also meet once a week for about an hour. We also spend time volunteering, raising money, and developing new professional events for the members of AKPsi and students of the business college. Most students are quite busy working & wanting to enjoy the little time they have in college, but we hope you will want to give some of your time to help develop our fraternity into the premier organization on campus.

Does the fraternity haze its pledges?

Alpha Kappa Psi upholds a strict national policy against all forms of hazing.

What are the guiding principles of Alpha Kappa Psi?

Building Brotherhood - The esoteric quality we call “Brotherhood” is of vital importance though difficult to define. Our members, from the day they become Brothers until the end of their lives, foster a great love of the Fraternity and a fondness for Brother Members. While Brotherhood manifests itself in a multitude of ways, at its center is a sense of duty and respect for both the Fraternity and individual members. All activities and decisions that involve the Fraternity are guided by a sense of stewardship and selflessness. Members are anchored by the need to do what is in the best interest of the Fraternity as a whole and are not swayed by individual self-interest.

Lifelong Learning - College is merely the beginning of business education. Our members share their knowledge and experiences openly with the people they work with, regardless of rank or position. In addition, they seek out opportunities to share their real-world experience with Brother Members, and in doing so they enhance the lifelong learning of those members.

High Ethical Standards - While the business world offers many opportunities for success and advancement, it also requires us to make decisions about how we succeed. Our members understand the importance of making decisions and conducting business in a way that takes into account both legal and ethical considerations. Our members serve as role models through their consistently fair and ethical conduct.

Improving Communities - Much is expected of those to whom much is given. Business professionals who seek to improve the communities in which they do business improve lives and develop goodwill. Our members actively give back to their communities through volunteer activities and monetary support.

Enhancing the Fraternity for Life - College chapters serve as living laboratories for classroom concepts and professional conduct. In turn, lessons learned in the Fraternity prepare members for success in the business world. Because they recognize the value and importance of our Fraternity, our members are united in their passion to build a legacy for the future. They support the Fraternity through volunteer leadership and monetary gifts.

Who can join the fraternity?

You can join Alpha Kappa Psi no matter what your background or major is. Alpha Kappa Psi is also a co-ed fraternity, so men and women are welcome to join. The majority of our members are business major students, but everyone is welcome. All you need is the desire to join and the dedication to enhance your education, leadership, brotherhood, and service skills.

How will I benefit by joining the fraternity?

Brothers gain valuable experience in developing professional knowledge and skills through many different events. We require all brothers to fulfill certain requirements to retain their good standing, such as chapter attendance, professional events, service activities, social events, and philanthropy.

Traditional education is expanded, giving brothers the opportunity to develop the skills that most employers are looking for today. Members enhance leadership skills while working on teams and in projects, develop charisma and speaking skills, and practice good organization and time management skills.

Professional development isn't the only perk of the fraternity. Brothers are offered the opportunity to network with peers, alumni, speakers, and many other people. One of the most prized advantages of joining a fraternity is the strong friends that you will continue to make year after year.
